FAQ

How is the club managed?

TAMU Club Baseball is organized and managed by students. Every year elections are held to vote for all officer and coach positions. The officers are in charge of all scheduling and ensuring that the season goes smoothly ensuring that the team is put in the best possible position to be successful.  We are funded by a combination of University grants, club fundraisers, donations and membership dues. The coaches, to put it simply, are in charge of winning.

How much are dues?

While dues may vary, they are typically around $300 a semester. These dues all go towards the travel and game fees necessary to keep the team functioning.

What is the competition level like?

Club baseball is made up of some very good teams and some very bad teams. Competition can sit anywhere between a low-level high school varsity team and a competitive juco team. Most pitchers we see will sit around 80. However, once we begin to reach playoffs, we begin to see guys that top out at 88-90.

What are practices like?

We have 2 practices a week, Tuesday and Thursday, lasting from 2-3 hours. We also have occasional weekend practices when necessary. Practices usually consist of a combination of fungo work, situational repetition, on-field bp, cage work, bullpens, and live scrimmages.

What is the difference between the fall and spring seasons?

The fall season consists of several unranked games scheduled around TAMU football that serve to prepare the team for conference play in the spring. The spring season is far more intensive as almost every game counts. Our goal is to go undefeated in conference play every year to secure the #1 regional bid and hopefully a World Series berth.

How serious is it if you have to miss a practice or game?

Missing practices or games is not an issue. School and family come first. However, we do ask that your time and effort reflect the passion that we have for the game; getting to play organized, competitive baseball for the last time in our lives. It simply isn't fair to your brothers and teammates for you to come out and half-ass games and practices. Your playtime will be a reflection your effort.

Is there a lot of travel involved?

We travel fairly often, sometimes driving as far as 6 hours (LSU tournament) but generally never more than a 2 hour drive. We mostly carpool to our games but we can rent cars or vans when necessary.

How difficult is it to manage classes and club during the semester?

While it can be difficult at times, it is certainly very doable as long as you have the slightest bit of discipline and time management ability.
